Tagged Image File Format (abbreviated TIFF) is a file format for storing images, including photographs and line art. It is now under the control of Adobe Systems. Originally created by the company Aldus[1] for use with what was then called "desktop publishing", the TIFF format is widely supported by image-manipulation applications, by publishing and page layout applications, by scanning, faxing, word processing, optical character recognition and other applications.[2] Adobe Systems, which acquired Aldus, now holds the copyright to the TIFF specification. TIFF has not had a major update since 1992, though several Aldus/Adobe technical notes have been published with minor extensions to the format, and several specifications, including TIFF/EP, have been based on the TIFF 6.0 specification.

Adobe Illustrator Artwork (AI) is a proprietary file format developed by Adobe Systems for representing single-page vector-based drawings in either the EPS or PDF formats. The .ai filename extension is used by Adobe Illustrator.

Early versions of the AI file format are true EPS files with a restricted, compact syntax, with additional semantics represented by Illustrator-specific DSC comments that conform to DSC's Open Structuring Conventions. These files are identical to their corresponding Illustrator EPS counterparts, but with the EPS procsets (procedure sets) omitted from the file and instead externally referenced using %%Include directives.

Recent versions of the AI file format, including the PDF-based formats and recent EPS formats, are based on a native format called PGF that is unrelated to both EPS and PDF. PDF compatibility is achieved not by extending the PDF format, but by embedding a complete copy of the native PGF data within the PDF file. The same kind of “dual path” approach is also used when recent versions of Illustrator are saving EPS-compatible files.

Adobe Illustrator is not the only program that can edit .ai files. Both Inkscape (a GPL licensed program) and CorelDRAW (another Proprietary program) can natively edit this file format.

EPS atau Encapsulated Postscript adalah suatu format berkas grafik, yang dapat berisikan grafik vektor, teks ataupun bitmap. Suatu berkas EPS pada intinya adalah suatu berkas PostScript yang memenuhi pembatasan tambahan. Batasan-batasan yang dimaksud bertujuan membuat piranti lunak menjadi lebih mudah untuk melakukan embedding berkas EPS dalam suatu dokumen Postscript lain. Sebagaimana Postscript EPS pun mendukung berbagai macam modus pewarnaan, misalnya RGB, Lab, CMYK, Duplex, Warna Berindeks, dan Skala Abu-abu. Selain itu EPS juga menuruni kemampuan PostScript dalam menyajikan berbagai jenis font atau tulisan.

Sebagai syarat minimum, suatu berkas EPS berisikan komentar PostScript yaitu BoundingBox sebagai tambahan dari header PostScript, yang menjelaskan daerah persegiempat tempat grafik digambarkan. Program aplikasi dapat memanfaatkan informasi ini untuk menata letaknya dalam suatu halaman di mana berkas EPS ini akan disisipkan, bahkan bila seandainya program yang bersangkutan tidak dapat melakukan proses render di dalamnya secara langsung.

Berkas-berkas EPS ditandai dengan ekstensi berkas .eps atau .epsf, di mana yang terakhir merupakan kependekan dari Encapsulated PostScript File. Isi dari berkas EPS dituliskan dalam format teks polos sehingga merupakan suatu format yang nyaman untuk dihasilkan oleh suatu program aplikasi buatan sendiri.
